Death and TPD cover
Important financial protection for you and your family
Our Death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover can help give you that security.
The amount of your insurance cover is based on the type of work you do (which determines your work scale), your age and whether you stay with unitised cover (our default cover) or change to fixed cover.
Work scales depend on what work you do
We have three work scales: general, non-manual and professional.
When you join we automatically put you on the general work scale, which applies if you do manual work or work in a trade environment. You need to apply to change your work scale if your job is non-manual or professional. It’s worth checking to see if you qualify for the non-manual or professional scale as they provide you with more insurance cover for the same cost.
Unitised vs fixed cover
Your default insurance cover starts out unitised, which means it’s based on an insurance benefit scale where the amount of cover varies by age.
You can choose fixed cover, which is where your level of cover stays the same from year to year but the cost of cover varies by age. Fixed cover allows you to choose the level of cover you want in multiples of $1,000.
Cost of unitised cover
The cost for each unit of cover is:
Cover type | Cost per unit (weekly)
Age next birthday 16-26 | Age next birthday 27-70
Death | $0.74 | $0.86 |
TPD | $0.55 | $0.77 |
Unitised Scales: Death and Total & Permanent Disability (1 Unit of cover)
With unitised cover each unit provides a specific amount of cover that depends on your age and work scale.
*Activities of Daily Work (Definition B) will apply for 100% of the benefit of TPD from 65th Birthday. Refer to the Insurance Guide for more information.
Fixed cover
With fixed cover the amount of insurance cover stays the same, but the cost varies by age.
