MTAA Super has been named as the top performer for the year ended December 2015 in both the SuperRatings and Chant West rankings.
MTAA Super’s My AutoSuper product achieved a result of 9.5 per cent.
Chairman, John Brumby said it was an excellent outcome for MTAA Super members. However, he cautioned that it was important to remember that superannuation was a long-term investment.
“While 2015 was an outstanding year it would be unrealistic to expect a repeat of these results every year, particularly when we are experiencing very challenging market conditions,’’ he said. “Perhaps more pleasing is that the My AutoSuper product is now ranked in the top quartile for performance over a three year period.
“These recent performance figures result from an ongoing continuous improvement program which has seen significant changes to the Fund’s investment strategy, investment governance and risk frameworks, the Board composition and a wide range of other business improvement
initiatives across the entire business.”
Chief Executive Officer, Leeanne Turner said the outstanding results had been propelled by a number of factors and reflected a well-positioned portfolio including listed equities and unlisted (alternatives) asset classes, in particular infrastructure, property and private equity. Ms Turner said the Fund has been holding an underweight position with listed equities and this position had paid off in more recent times.
